ADA is Live

Saturday, June 23rd, 2007

Getting my feel for things today and tomorrow is my talk on what we do in our healthcordia programs - effectively acting as an extension to doctors and nurses helping people to manage their diabetes.

Already made a comment to some of what was talked about at ADA today at the ADA blog. Check it out.

Apparently, everyone is starting to understand that devices without a program are not always that effective and could be potentially dangerous. The talk was about CGMS but the same is true for glucose meters and many medical devices in the hands of untrained operators. More soon.

IOB (aka BOB) Ruling

Thanks for the investigative research Amy. You certainly went to the right sources in Virginia Valentine and John Walsh (aka - Mr. Insulin Pump).

While there are always design considerations that go into technology (pros vs cons), some features need to follow the path well taken while others should go where no tech has gone before. I was glad to hear that Omnipod is planning to get in line with industry and hopefully we can get all of the pump manufacturers to come to a standard methodology for core features including the bolus on board calculation.

Diabetes Technology Story from Medical Products Outsourcing - May 2007 Issue

I found myself quoted on the web earlier today ;)

According to Diabetech’s McMahon, the important thing is to keep trying. “We may never get to that endpoint,” he said, “but there will be a lot of innovation along the way.”

Of course it’s validating to read yet another report on diabetes technology and how badly it’s needed.  I suppose if you could put an endo or a cde in a box and just hand it to the patient that might be a better solution.  Until then, we’ll have to accelerate the development and field tuning of technologies as the next best thing.
