Preliminary Trial Results from RightNow! Diabetes Technology Study of Team Management

August 22nd, 2007 by Kevin

The RightNow! Study is one of our many research trials. This trial includes a focus on the family of kids with type 1 diabetes and is designed to assess the impact of an automatic notification system to coordinate care by automatically (no effort or need to remember or do anything to transmit data) notifying parents via cell phone text message with glucose alerts along with the GlucoMON managed timestamp.Note that in some cases the school nurse is included in the alert and report profile w settings defined by the family. In addition, the automated data integrity and collection enable a streamlined review of the patient’s logbook for trends; a critical part of diabetes self-care.

Preliminary results from this study indicate the following:

- 100% report feeling better about their ability to manage diabetes since using the study toolset.

- 100% recommend participation in this study to other families.

- Satisfaction with the toolset on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 meaning most satisfied):

5 = 45%, 4 = 45%, 3 = 10%, 2 = 0%, 1 = 0%

(toolset satisfaction polls higher than satisfaction with care provided by the family’s medical providers)

Primary Outcome Measures:

A1c

- 64% reported a reduction in A1c since participating in the study while 9% reported No Change, 9% reported an increase and 18% reported mixed results.

Frequency of Hypoglycemia

- 45% reported less frequent hypoglycemia, 55% no change and nobody reported an increase.

(note: of those participants reporting less frequent hypoglycemia, 60% also reported less frequent hyperglycemia)

Frequency of Hyperglycemia

- 45% reported less frequent hypoglycemia, 55% no change and nobody reported an increase.

(note: of those participants reporting less frequent hyperglycemia, 60% also reported less frequent hypoglycemia)

Frequency of Logbook Review

- 64% review their logbook weekly for blood sugar trends

This trial is open and recruiting family participants. This trial is scheduled to cease recruiting for new participants on December 31, 2007. The trial results will be published in late 2008.

Additionally, the GlucoMON configuration for this trial uses the Ultra meter and OneTouch Strips, both from LifeScan. The test strips are the most widely covered by insurance, takes only 1uL blood sample and 5 seconds.

  2. Kristi Cox Says:

I would like more information on enrolling in this study. My son is type 1 and 7 years old. Thank you.

The GlucoMON-RT service is now commercially available for $29.95/mo. Contact Diabetech for more information.
